According to the American FootGolf League, the combination soccer and golf sport called FootGolf is played with a regulation #5 soccer ball on shortened holes, such as a par 3 course, with 21-inch diameter cups. The rules largely correspond to the rules of golf, playing in groups of four, players compete to kick the soccer ball from the tee box into the cup with the least number of kicks. Each kick is considered a "stroke", much like golf.
The first World Cup was held in 2012 in Budapest, Hungary with teams participating from Hungary, Argentina, Belgium, Greece, Netherlands, Italy, Mexico, United States. The sport is regulated by the Federation for International FootGolf (FIFG). The American FootGolf League (AFGL) is the exclusive member of the FIFG and governing body for the sport of FootGolf in the United States.
